Global jewellery crime investigators turn to GIA for expertise and assistance
More than $1.5 billion of jewellery and precious metals were stolen in the US in 2010, with a recovery rate of only around 4.2 percent, according to the Uniform Crime Report issued by the FBI. To help combat gem and jewellery-related crimes, law enforcement turned to the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) for expertise and assistance, the institute said in a statement.
