Iconic jeweller Van Cleef & Arpels is currently showcasing its latest High Jewellery collection, which pays homage to the biblical story of Noah’s Ark, at the Asia Society Hong Kong Center.

The installation, which features about 60 gemstone-studded clips inspired by exotic and mythical creatures, is available for viewing until March 26.

Van Cleef & Arpels has commissioned renowned theatre and visual artist Robert Wilson to set the stage for the jeweller’s extraordinary exhibit.

“The concept of staging 60 or so animal pairs in connection with Noah’s Ark originates from a painting by Jan Brueghel the Elder exhibited at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles,” said Nicolas Bos, CEO of Van Cleef & Arpels. “Besides, Noah’s Ark is a great myth told in many religions and culture… All that remained was to find the right person to orchestrate the 60 or so creations where each diamond, pearl, fine stone and gemstone recounts a story. And that person was Robert Wilson.”

According to Van Cleef & Arpels, Wilson envisioned the Ark as a “great black box lined with jewel cases to depict the inside of the vessel, as would a matrix plunged in the engulfing darkness.”
