In all its luxurious fine jewellery pieces, from the classically elegant to the refreshingly modern, Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen melds exquisite details and superior craftsmanship. Graceful and natural designs are the signature of this jewellery brand, a favourite of the Danish royal family. To Charlotte Lynggaard, creative director and the daughter of the brand’s founder, jewellery has to be eye-catching, expressive and impressive. She shares her creative process in an interview with JNA.

JNA: Where does your passion for jewellery come from?

Charlotte Lynggaard: I grew up in the fine jewellery business. As a trained goldsmith, my father founded his eponymous brand in 1963, and throughout our childhood, my brother and I were both smitten with his enthusiasm, enormous creativity, and his love of craftsmanship and design. Eventually, we both wished to join the company.

JNA: What is your design philosophy?

Lynggaard: First of all, I always design pieces that I myself would want to wear. The philosophy for both my father and me is to stay true to our inspiration and to always let our hearts guide us. I am hugely inspired by the endless beauty of nature.

JNA: What is the secret ingredient behind Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen’s business longevity and sustained success?

Lynggaard: We have remained truly dedicated to our craft, and we never compromise on quality of craftsmanship or design. We employ a large team of highly professional individuals who assists us on the precious journey. I think this devotion shows in the jewellery. Also, the brand strives to evolve with time. I love a fine jewellery classic, but I too am a product of my time and I get inspired by the world I live in. New pieces will reflect this in design as well as technique and choice of stones.

JNA: Please describe your signature products and techniques.

Lynggaard: I am proud to say that we have many signature collections, but one of our most spectacular is my father’s elephant design. He created the design for my mother as a present for their 50th wedding anniversary. It is a stunning lucky charm that says a lot about our perfectionist approach to jewellery. The pavé version features 536 diamonds of 20 different sizes for perfect rendering of the animal’s natural posture and curves. We use a complicated technique of setting diamonds in a manner that allows extreme brilliance and sparkle.

JNA: How was business for Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen
this year?

Lynggaard: We are a small family business with huge ambitions. 2017 has been one of the busiest years in the history of Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen. Two new flagship stores have opened in Paris and Singapore respectively. We plan to explore the Asian market further. Our first flagship store in Singapore is a testament to our extraordinary achievements in Asia in the past few years and how we have met the strong demand from our customers.
