Modern women and their many different personalities are at the core of colourful jewellery pieces designed by sisters Annick Jordi and Noëlle Vieillard-Jordi of Switzerland-based bahina Sarl. Delicate yet spirited, these jewels are the ideal representation of today’s woman – bold, beautiful and confident.

Subtlety and sophistication best describe stylish 18-karat gold jewellery pieces from bahina Sarl of Switzerland. Founded by sisters Annick Jordi and Noëlle Vieillard-Jordi, who have backgrounds in jewellery design and gemmology, the jeweller lives up to its colourful reputation through fine collections that combine elements from nature and culture.

“Joy of life and individuality are what the label bahina jewels stands for,” explained Noëlle. “We find constant inspiration in empowered and independent women.”

Founded in 2007, bahina designs jewellery to meet the diverse preferences of the modern and trendy woman who is financially independent and highly self-expressive. According to Annick and Noëlle, bahina is the Hindi term for “two sisters.”

World of colours

Annick and Noëlle often purchase coloured gemstones during their trips to India, a country of mesmerising hues and tradition. These same materials are used to create their 18-karat gold jewellery pieces in distinctive designs.

“We only design jewellery that we personally love and will wear. We never follow trends. We create happy and colourful jewellery. Our goal is to make women feel good when they wear a bahina piece. Many of our clients tell us that they wear our designs as lucky charms, and that’s the biggest compliment for us. Bahina comes from our hearts and should touch our clients’ hearts,” bared Noëlle.

Today’s women are more financially independent and capable of buying jewellery on their own. Gone are the days when women would wait for special occasions to be given a new piece of jewellery, she added.

Bahina offers jewellery pieces falling within a broad price range to meet the different needs of clients. “We want to appeal to women who are active, committed, open-minded and self-confident,” said Noëlle.

Annick commented, “You will not find any classic jewellery piece among our creations. Colours and special compositions are the crux of our collections. Pieces from different collections can actually be worn together, or mixed and matched, to achieve various looks depending on a woman’s personal style.”

At the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair, the company met with potential clients from target markets.

“The Hong Kong show was a good experience for us and we made some very promising new contacts. Our strategy for Asia is to find exclusive retailers who love and understand our products and could help us build our brand in that region. We are not in a rush. We are looking for long-term business relationships and positive collaborations,” Noëlle stated.

Annick and Noëlle design two collections a year. The company offers five different lines under bahina jewels: Gold rush, Antigua, Bahina classics, Monsoon and Crown jewels.

The Gold rush collection is entirely handmade in India and exudes an ethnic appeal. The stones are cut by hand in Jaipur, with facets only on one side of the stone, and set in 18-karat gold. Most of the designs are large and one of a kind.

Bahina classics is aptly called the “little black dress” collection, according to the sisters. Jewellery pieces in this collection are highly feminine, melding the classic and contemporary looks. These pieces are ideal accents to a woman’s basic wardrobe because they inject elegance and charisma to any attire. Bahina classics feature facetted or cabochon stones in both yellow and white gold.
